Seruka Tournament – Rwanda
Seruka is a national schools-level cricket tournament in Rwanda that provides a vital platform for young people to progress, perform, and be recognised. It connects the day-to-day work of community coaches with the formal cricket pathway, giving players the opportunity to showcase their skills, build confidence, and take the next step towards representative cricket.
For many young players, Seruka is the first time they experience structured tournament cricket. Teams prepare over weeks with their community coaches, focusing not only on technical skills, but also on teamwork, discipline, and game awareness. The tournament environment allows players to put learning into practice, managing pressure, making decisions, and performing as a team in competitive settings.
Seruka is also a powerful learning opportunity for coaches. Planning training blocks, preparing squads, managing match days, and reflecting on performance all contribute to deeper coaching understanding and confidence. Coaches develop skills in tournament planning, preparation, execution, and review, strengthening the quality of cricket delivery at school and community level.
Beyond performance, Seruka is a source of pride. Schools, communities, coaches, and families come together to celebrate participation and achievement, reinforcing the value of cricket as a positive, visible part of young people’s lives. By bridging grassroots coaching and national pathways, Seruka plays a crucial role in Rwanda’s cricket ecosystem: developing players, strengthening coaches, and creating clear, inspiring routes for young people to progress through the game.
